Brandon’s Journey: Finding Normalcy Through Naked Yoga
Brandon’s Story
Yoga and meditation have become indispensable tools in Brandon’s daily fight with long COVID and biotoxin illness.
Life often throws unexpected challenges our way, and for Brandon, a series of profound health issues threatened to derail his active and vibrant life. Yet, through resilience, determination, and the consistent practice of naked yoga, he has found a powerful path to regain normalcy and functioning in his everyday life. His story is a testament to how the right practice, embraced with an open mind, can become an essential tool for navigating chronic illness and rediscovering well-being. We sat down with Brandon to hear his inspiring journey of healing and discovery with True Naked Yoga.
“I have always been a nudist and grew up in a household where nudity is not shameful. We were taught to take care of and love our bodies. Discovering True Naked Yoga was a natural extension of this philosophy.”
A Lifelong Connection to Movement and Yoga
Brandon’s relationship with movement began early. “I have been hypermobile (what people call double-jointed) since a child, and always knew I was flexible,” he shares. His yoga journey started at a young age, taking it as an after-school program at just seven years old. For young Brandon, it was one of the few activities, besides sports, that could truly calm him down. This early connection to yoga laid a foundational path that would prove invaluable later in life.
His comfort with his body and nudity also developed naturally. “I have always been a nudist and grew up in a household where nudity is not shameful,” Brandon explains. “We were taught to take care of and love our bodies.” Discovering True Naked Yoga was a natural extension of this philosophy, offering a space where his values aligned with his practice. He also found a practical benefit: “I personally find it easier to copy the yoga positions from TNY because of the lack of the clothes blocking.”
Navigating the Depths of Biotoxin Illness and Long COVID
Brandon’s life took a dramatic turn when he faced a dual health crisis. “I got Long COVID and biotoxin illness due to mold exposure at the same time," he recounts candidly. "It ruined my life and robbed me of my youth.” This devastating combination left him with chronic inflammation that resisted conventional treatments, alongside a host of debilitating symptoms: brain fog, executive functioning and motivation issues, anxiety, OCD, depression, chronic fatigue, muscle spasms, muscle imbalances, and chronic pain.
Once an athlete who loved to run, Brandon lost the ability to do so. “I was an athlete before and it has really slowed down,” he shares. “I mainly just do yoga and swim and walk now.” The emotional toll was immense. “Dealing with Long COVID and mold illness has taken a major toll on my life trajectory,” he admits. “It’s incredibly demanding and depressing at times.” Despite these immense challenges, he maintains a resourceful spirit, treating his healing as a full-time job, constantly iterating and searching for what works.
How Naked Yoga Became a Pillar of Support
Brandon incorporates his yoga practice daily, stretching every morning.
While Brandon emphasizes that he has not fully recovered, “every day is a struggle that requires a high degree of staying calm and perspective”, yoga and meditation have become indispensable tools in his daily fight.
True Naked Yoga specifically offers unique benefits for his condition:
Pain and Inflammation Management: “It helps with pain and inflammation that my condition, Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, is known for,” he notes.
Engagement and Motivation: The consistent release of “frequent new videos keep me engaged when I don’t feel the energy to do yoga; it is enticing to try something new.” This variety is crucial for someone battling chronic fatigue and motivation issues.
Enhanced Form and Natural Movement: For Brandon, nudity in practice is not just about comfort but also about precision. “Easier to copy the forms, I believe naked is more natural,” he states, appreciating the clear view of alignment. He also finds it a “bit of an enticer to do something beneficial for myself when I’m unmotivated and down in the dumps and could benefit from the calming and grounding and physical benefits of yoga the most.”
Targeted Relief: He particularly favors programs focused on releasing tight hips, as this is a constant issue for him. “I have had some breakthroughs following these a couple of times where I got significant relief just by learning a move I didn’t know before!”
Brandon incorporates his yoga practice daily, stretching every morning and as needed throughout the day. He has even gained enough strength to join live yoga classes, a significant milestone in his recovery journey. “Even though I still find the pace and intensity of the live classes challenging at times, there is growth there,” he says, hoping to make it a weekly ritual. He also shares this common interest with a special friend, reinforcing their shared commitment to well-being.
Words of Wisdom and Unwavering Resilience
For those embarking on their naked yoga journey, Brandon offers a message of acceptance and kindness: “Don’t be afraid, we are all human, and we are all trying to make it on this planet. Be kind to one another, be kind to yourself. Allow those scars to heal, it will be beautiful when they do.”
Despite the ongoing challenges, Brandon’s story is one of unwavering resilience. His academic background in high-level research and his resourceful mindset have equipped him to approach his healing as a full-time endeavor, constantly adapting and seeking solutions. He finds yoga to be a constant source of recentering and relaxation, helping to counter the stress of a demanding job and the negatives of chronic illness.
